The Gospel

The Gospel is first and foremost “good news,” primarily because it addresses the most serious problem that you and I have as human beings:  that God is holy and just, and we are not, and when our life is over, we will stand before a just and holy God and be judged based on our righteousness, or lack thereof, or the righteousness of another. This means neither your performance nor accomplishments can rescue you from sin and destruction but only the perfect life of Jesus.      

Therefore, the good news we call “The Gospel,” is actually great news in that Jesus who is God’s Son lived a life of perfect righteousness, of perfect obedience to God, not for His own sake, but for the well-being of His people and even stood condemned on the cross for our sins so that we might receive the righteousness of God in Jesus Christ. 

While the sacrifice of God’s Son was a costly matter to forgive us of our sins, it was also so valuable in that God raised Jesus from the dead for our justification.  So on one hand, the Gospel is a historical, objective reality of who Jesus is and what He did, while on the other hand, it is a very subjective matter in that whosoever believes in and calls on the name of Jesus by faith, having put their trust in Jesus alone, will not only be forgiven of their sins, they will be called sons and daughters of God with a new family and purpose for this journey of life.
